So You Think You Can Muuv?
The Finnish National Opera and Ballet already collaborates with schools in arts education. The goal of this HundrED experiment is to further this collaboration by reaching young people who do not have prior experience in dance - to inspire and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and create feelings of accomplishment.
What are the goals you are looking to achieve with the experiment?
The priority is to have young people try new things and experience the world of dance as a form of self-expression.
What is the idea of the experiment?
The So You Think You Can Muuv - workshop consists of a dance performance and a choreography developed in small groups of 5-9 grade students. The fifteen minute performance will be combining ballet, contemporary dance and street dance. After the performance the National Ballet and Finnish Ballet Society dancers will be teaching a short choreography to the groups. To finalize the workshop, with the encouragement of the instructors, the groups will plan and showcase their own choreographies. The workshop is an hour and a half long and will be organized at the schools.
Is this a new experiment or is this based on an existing one?
The workshop began in 2014 and hopefully will be inaugurated into areas outside the capital area as well.
How will the experiment be scheduled and how will it be put into practice?
In the spring of 2016 the workshop has been held in Kuopio, Rovaniemi, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä and Salo. In the fall of 2016 we will be seeking ways to provide permanent solutions in organizing dance workshops for regions beyond the capital area in Finland.
Will be announced later.
