Learning School Development

Puolimatka Comprehensive School students, in collaboration with faculty, parents and each other, will be developing and testing methods with which they can assess the needs of schools in the future. The goal is to help students to understand learning processes and the role of school from multiple points of view. In this experiment we are looking to find new ways in which we can add onto student participation in decision making at schools and in their learning.

What is the idea of the experiment?

The idea of the experiment is to boost learning through democracy and empowering students to feel the significance of participating in key decision making at school. Global citizenship requires a new kind of competency and the Puolimatka Comprehensive School wants to root this into their education.
 

What does adding partnership mean in theory?

During the course of the experiment, students will be participating in all school planning that regards learning, practicalities and happenings - what can be influenced, will turn into ownership, making it meaningful.
 

Is this a new experiment or is this based on an existing one?

The experiment is new and has the intention of making sure that student participation is put into effect on all levels and school matters.
 

How will the experiment be scheduled and how will it be put into practice?

The experiment will be trialed and the methods developed throughout the 2016-2017 school year. Although the trialing is a one year process, the goal is to produce an operative model that will last.
