Ghiwa El Fakhry
I have graduated from the Lebanese American University - Byblos (2016) with a B.A. in International Affairs/Political Science and a minor in Conflict Resolution and Analysis. I am a sports enthusiast, an environmental activist and career coach and trainer. I am a member of the "protectors of the environment" committee in my village, Bcharre - North Lebanon.
I am the Coordinator of the Youth training program at the Institute of Management and services.
My current position in this program is to:
- Elaborate the Training Program Curricula for the Module: “Career Orientation for Rural Development”.
- Presentation of the program in schools: contact with school directors, parents & students.
- Recruitment of the youth to pursue the program.
- Delivering training sessions in soft skills and career orientation.
- Personal follow-up and mentoring of participants in the program.
I believe that being part of this large educational community is an exceptional opportunity for Lebanon and for our training center and youth program. It's an amazing tool of synergy with similar initiatives. The larger this community of innovative educational platforms becomes, the better opportunities are reached out to different communities and young leaders and professionals interested in education worldwide. And not any eductaion, but education that saves lives.
Education is an eye-opening weapon. In fact, it's the only 'peaceful' weapon that provokes an impactful, lasting change in students. It opens a new perspective in one's mind, a perspective that is not directly influenced by one's own culture, environment, traditions, etc... but that is open to new ideas, tools, cultures and methods. It's the turning point for students to cross the bridge between their own mind and personal thoughts, and a step forward towards the "other" once perceived as different. Education is communication, education is the common language between all countries. Education is non-violence, education is innovation. Education brings down ignorance, fanaticism by supporting human dignity, knowledge and development. And I quote this statement by a British historian: "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely."
On the contrary, education is power and absolute education doesn't corrupt absolutely.What role does innovation play in education change?
Innovation is the most critical process in educational change. If innovation won't spread everywhere especially in marginalized countries and communities, we will be facing human degradation in all areas. Instead, being in the 21st century, we have strong ways of developing education but not only in schools, also through social enterprises. In Lebanon, because the educational system is very weak, we can't wait forever for a change in the system itself. For this reason, innovative education is what will take the country from one place to another. It has already started but we need more support and faith in the power of innovation as educational change. Innovation will engage more students, youth and countries in common local and global goals. This could reach out to have a larger mission, environmental for example. Each person will feel more involved in the common good of citizens, communities and finally, countries.
I loved the three innovations above, because they represent exactly what myself personally, and the program I am working at is delivering. I believe that only through active learning, practical methods and interaction with nature, our environment, we will be able to develop a free vision of who we are and where we want to be. These learning methods help students accept themselves, learn from their limitations and use their strengths to find their place in the future. These innovations contribute in building virtuous leaders that could change the world by starting from little simple things in the community we live in.

Institute of management and services (IMS): The youth training program.
The program is enabling girls from the villages to become aware of possible job opportunities in rural areas; widen their perspectives on various careers, especially creating their own small business and social enterprises in their villages. They will develop a leadership, educational and rural development mindset in their own communities through workshops and various trainings. Girls will be capable of guiding and helping other girls to reach their objectives.
EDUKATOU is an educational center for educational, academic, sports, fun and artistic activities with educational professionals.
They will be followed in their homework and will attend every day a different educational workshop (stretching, relaxation, crafts, cooking, storytelling, general culture, artistic activities, board games, life skills, communication ...)
EDUKATOU also offers theater, dance and art classes with professionals as well as thematic workshops for children during school holidays and summer holidays.
In EDUKATOU children are followed by experienced and francophone educators and by a psychotherapist who can welcome parents and children who wish for private consultations.
Regular trainings are offered to parents who wish (education, communication, personal development, well-being ...)
An orthopedagogue and a psychologist specializing in dance therapy offer private sessions for children or adults in need.
