“The Path to Clean Water” is one of the serial courses developed by SDGo. This is an “episode style” PBL course, in which students will delve into the drinking water issues in rural China through solving episode-by-episode challenges. Starting from specified problems related to “residual chlorine”, “TDS”, “water hardness”, “nitrate”, “turbidity” and other social/economical factors that affect access to clean water, students will develop the ability to assess and cope with different situations, after which they will eventually collaborate to design a comprehensive solution to the real challenge faced by two villages in Gansu/Hebei province, as their independent open-ended project.
“PCW” is a fictitious non-governmental organization based on a real NGO in China - Greenovation. Since its launching in 2011, Greenovation team has travelled all over China making efforts to assist rural Chinese people to have better quality drinking water. This course allows students to experience Greenovation’s stories, and to gain insights into real-life social issues.
“The Path to Clean Water” course covers subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, design, and engineering. The course also responds to the call of the United Nations, and encourages students to apply what they learn at school to solving global SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) problems. SDGo strongly believes that the best education is the combination of science, phronesis, and creativity.
