About the innovation

What is Green Schools Project

Green Schools Project is an exciting programme for primary and secondary pupils, which will transform the attitudes and behaviour of every participating school community towards the local and wider environment. Taking part can save a school thousands of pounds on energy costs, while helping students to build important skills that will help them to achieve their potential.

Schools receive expert visits to deliver an assembly, staff training, and energy saving support, and are matched with a university student volunteer who will help to coordinate and run an Eco-Team of pupils. It facilitates fun student-led activities with guides, resources and templates that are easy to follow and ready to use.

Students carrying out the projects have access to an online interactive portal on the Green Schools Project website where they are set tasks and can upload evidence that they have achieved them, gaining points and competing against other schools on the leader board. This encourages them to take the lead on the projects, helping them to develop valuable skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork and problem solving.

Green Schools Project is also a network and community of environmentally friendly schools, with competitions to drive engagement, and links to businesses to help with progression into university and the workplace.

With their future at stake due to the impact of climate change, there has never been a greater need for young people to engage with environmental issues, working with Green Schools Project makes that a whole lot easier.

Choose your programme
The complete package is what we recommend for the highest level of support, but if you are ready to go without the visits and university volunteer the basic package is a more affordable entry point. This is also available for International Schools where visiting the school would not be possible. We stick to our values, so can't be adding to carbon emissions by flying to see you to help you to go green!
Get started!
Once you've joined the programme we will be in touch to arrange a visit and you will be able to start by recruiting an Eco-Team who will complete an environmental review, create an action plan and start work on projects such as energy saving, recycling, growing vegetables or tackling local air pollution with a walk to school initiative.
