Who is Bastian Barnbeck?

Bastian Barnbeck is a social entrepreneur, surfer, polyglot and world citizen from Germany. Having left his home country for the first time at the age of 16 on a student exchange in the United States, he’s since lived, studied and worked in over 10 countries, including France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Brazil and Chile.

Following five years of valuable experience in the hospitality, FMCG and management consulting industries, he decided to combine his two passions for education and surfing by creating Waved Foundation, the first organization to enable surfers and the general public to actively support scholastic education through surfing via its unique concept fundraising model ‘One dollar per wave for local schools’.

For each wave surfed during organized surfing events, the private sector sponsors one dollar to Waved and therefore the education of primary schools in vulnerable areas of Panama.

Having moved from Brazil to Panama in 2016, and with only one year of operation, Waved was nominated for Panama’s national heroes TV show ‘Héroes por Panamá’.

Thanks to the continuous work of positively impacting Panama’s scholastic education through the extreme sports surfing, Bastian was recently nominated as an Ambassador of the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ by the United Nations Development Program in Panamá – a unique initiative which promotes the importance of the Agenda 2030 and its 17 objectives for sustainable development.
