Our next HundrED Innovator Interaction will be taking place on Friday, May 4th, 2018 at 11:00 SGT (Singapore) or 06:00 EEST (Helsinki). Join us as we meet Kati Nevatalo, VP Pedagogy and Samuel Salmenlinna, CEO at House of Learning (featured in the HundrED Finland collection) and Jay Thompson, Head Of Educational Technology (K-12) and Mark Gardner, MYP/IGCSE Curriculum Coordinator at GEMS World Academy (Singapore).

Who is hosting the interaction?

Kati Nevatalo

Kati is the Founder of House of Learning. She’s got a class room teacher background and also served as a domain expert teacher for the City of Helsinki. There her role was to guide other teachers, and to contribute to practices in assessment, portfolio-learning and applying the transversal competences at the city level. Kati has always been interested in developing her own work and improving the schools. The House of Learning innovation initiated from her everyday life as a teacher. Currently she’s a full-time entrepreneur and serves as the VP of Pedagogy in House of Learning. Kati holds a Master’s Degree in Education.

Samuel Salmenlinna

Samuel is a serial software entrepreneur with a current focus on education technology. He’s got a track record from variety of roles in the software industry in multiple domains. He has served as CEO, board member or in director positions successfully in multiple start-ups or SMEs. Currently Samuel serves as the CEO at House of Learning, which he believes is _the_ EdTech start-up that will actually make the long-awaited difference in K-12 Education in the digital era.  Samuel is also a board member in Sharper Shape Inc. the leading start-up in drone based automated asset inspection, where he also served as the Managing Director, prior to joining House of Learning in early 2017. Previously, Samuel was a Partner and the CEO of Uoma Oy, a technology consulting company that was selected as the fastest growing technology service company in Finland by Deloitte in 2010. Samuel also was a Partner at Avaus Consulting, and after acquisition by Siili Solutions Plc, he was the head of Solutions unit at Siili. Other companies, where Samuel has been board member, investor, or executive include Maventa (exited to Visma Plc.) and Locus Portal (exited to Mobile Arts). He has also been working in Stonesoft (acquired by Intel) and Tekla (acquired by Trimble) as software developer and manager.

Jay Thompson

Jay is an experienced Education Leader who is passionate about engaging students through technology integration in the classroom and improving education policy to modernise learning for the 21st century and beyond.
He holds a Masters in Education majoring in literacy development and programme implementation, as well as a Bachelor of Information Technology majoring in information management. He currently works as the Head of Educational Technology across K-12 at the Singapore campus of Gems Education. This role sees him reviewing and implementing technology tools and pedagogical practices, as well as developing a school wide innovators mindset through coding, robotics, entrepreneurialism and design. Jay loves to share his expertise and experiences with people around the world, presenting at a number of workshops and conferences across Asia Pacific.

Mark Gardner

Mark Gardner is the MYP / IGCSE Curriculum Coordinator and joined GEMS World Academy (Singapore) in August 2015. Mark has 19 years of teaching experience, including 9 years in an international setting.

Since 2006 Mark has worked in the Middle East, including posts in Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. Initially working as a teacher of Geography, he progressed quickly into curriculum management, gaining experience in supporting all subject departments in the introduction of the IB MYP.  Most recently, Mark served as the MYP / IGCSE Coordinator at an international school in Dubai, successfully leading it through the IB candidacy and authorisation process to become an IB World School.

In addition to working in schools, Mark’s teaching experience has also included contributing to the training programme for volunteers in supporting the delivery of the Commonwealth Games and he has worked as an external moderator for vocational programmes in the UK.
