Active Projectile: Creating HundrED Spotlight in Nigeria in 2020

We're delighted to announce the launch of the HundrED Spotlight on Nigeria, to shine a light on education innovation from the “Giant of Africa.”

In both rural and urban areas, Nigerian educators face challenges accommodating the massive population growth in the last 10 years. Nigeria has added almost 45 million people in the last 10 years, 3rd only to China and India and over a 25% increase (1). As a result, over 60% of the population is under the age of 25(2). In partnership with Active Projectile, the HundrED Spotlight Nigeria will shine a light on the educators and innovators doing extraordinary things to educate students amidst this growth.

“At HundrED, we truly believe the purpose of education is to help every child flourish, and innovations in education are happening every day,” explains Lasse Leponiemi, Executive Director. “By spotlighting countries like Nigeria, we’re able to identify and elevate education innovations with the potential to scale, and inspire a grassroots movement across the world.”

We now invite organizations, school districts, and individuals from across Nigeria to submit their education innovation for consideration. Participation in the Spotlight is free for innovators. All submissions are thoroughly researched and must meet HundrED’s strict criteria of being impactful, scalable, and innovative, and will be vetted by a committee of global and local experts.

"Whilst it is an acknowledged fact that Finland has one of the best Education Systems in the world due to its innovation progression, it is no longer a hidden fact that the Education System in Nigeria would do better with innovation, and this would be highly benefited from a programme as this. "  Adesola Oyinloye-Ndu, Director Training and Development, Active Projectile Ltd

Participating in the HundrED Spotlight will allow participants to make authentic connections with educators, schools, students and partners; building their understanding of innovation in order to help improve education at globally.

The 10 selected innovations will be featured in professionally produced videos and highlighted in a comprehensive report of the Nigeria Spotlight. They will also be packaged on the HundrED website such that they will be easy to understand and implement anywhere in the world. Finally, the are all invited to the annual 3-day HundrED Innovation Summit in Helsinki, Finland in November 2020 to meet other innovators like them from around the world.

The call for submissions is now open, and we’re inviting regional K12 innovators to submit their education innovations by March 15, 2020. The selected innovations will be announced in May, 2020, and the online collection of innovations featuring videos and reports will launch in September 2020.

We are excited to start researching the innovations coming in, and to help share Nigerian education innovations with the world.
