Educase

Making the Case for Education

Educase is a school bag that folds into a desk for students in marginalised communities who have inadequate classroom furniture, giving them a comfortable learning space at school and at home. It's strong, durable, lightweight, weather resistant and affordable and can be easily assembled under 30 seconds.

"I think this can make an impact in so many ways: there is the obvious one of solving the problem by having more space but this will also be really good for motivation, comfort and regular attendance"

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Educase was created to help the millions of children studying in poor classroom environments in South Asia. Most public schools in the region do not have any writing/learning support for children and the conditions at home are the same, resulting in hours of discomfort whilst studying, and affecting students' writing, motivation and overall educational performance.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Educase is a simple solution to the problem of inadequate classroom furniture. It provides a portable, personal study space for students to learn comfortably anywhere they want. Primarily used at school and home, Educase is designed as a backpack in which students can carry their books to school, unpack and fold its unique structure into a desk for reading and writing support for the day, and then pack it up into a backpack again to use it at home too.

How has it been spreading?

Educase sales began in January 2021 and the bags are currently being used by 350 students in Nepal. It has also been adopted by teaching volunteers who go to public schools to teach in rural areas.

It has been distributed to various different regions of Nepal, however one of the biggest achievements of Educase has been partnering with a school in the mountains 4000m high!

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Educase has a B2B model where organisations/individuals who are working in the education field purchase the bags and distribute it to their school networks so students can enjoy their Educase for free. To be involved, you can reach out to us via email or social media and we can find a way for you to contribute; from sponsoring 1 child's desk to an entire classroom of deserving students.
