About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

I created Green Schools Nepal to address the urgent need for sustainability education and environmental stewardship in Nepalese schools. Recognizing the importance of integrating eco-friendly practices into education, you sought to empower students, teachers, and communities to become agents of positive change in protecting Nepal's natural resources and promoting a sustainable future.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, Green Schools Nepal transforms traditional classrooms into vibrant hubs of sustainability. Students engage in hands-on activities like tending to school gardens, managing recycling programs, and installing solar panels. Teachers integrate sustainability lessons into the curriculum, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues. Student-led clubs organize community clean-up events and advocate for eco-friendly practices. Green infrastructure, such as rainwater harvesting systems and composting facilities, dots the school campus. Together, these elements create an immersive learning environment where students become empowered stewards of the environment, driving positive change within their schools and communities.

How has it been spreading?

Green Schools Nepal spreads through grassroots efforts, community engagement, and collaborations with educational institutions. Initially launched in Kathmandu, it gains traction through word-of-mouth, presentations, and workshops. As schools witness its impact, neighboring institutions express interest, fostering organic growth. Partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations facilitate expansion, providing resources and expertise. Through collective efforts, Green Schools Nepal inspires a network of environmentally conscious schools nationwide.
