We hope to see the arts, proven to cultivate creativity & preserve children's natural genius, celebrated and put to USE in education. Through availing our tools & multi-disciplinary curricula: Education IN art (benefits well studied) & Education THROUGH art: less children are marginalised when innate in most of us art forms, like movement, song & character play, utilised as teaching tools.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Traditional education, still rooted in 19th-century methods, suppresses creativity—crucial for today's innovation era. Teachers need training in playful and embodied teaching to preserve children's creativity and accommodate diverse learning styles. Buzz Kidz provides multi disciplinary arts programmes and simple arts toolkit for teachers to enhance child development and educational outcomes.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Buzz Kidz has custom developed drama, dance, and singing programmes delivered in two key streams:

Education IN Art: Interactive Creative Arts programmes for children from birth to 13, delivered weekly, in-person in- and after-schools, via a franchise network.
Education THROUGH Art: Empowers teachers to use creative arts tools to enhance playful, embodied learning experiences.

The online platform, Buzz-in-a-Box, makes the Buzz Kidz programme (consisting of unique methodology, original learning material like music and the accredited curricula and tools) available and easily digestible to teachers and franchisees. Buzz-in-a-Box means any teacher, anywhere can use the Buzz Kidz programme!

Our NGO, The Buzz Foundation, also powered by Buzz-in-a-Box, makes our programme available to the least fortunate communities.

Our television show and podcast takes our unique child development programme to "the last mile."

How has it been spreading?

We've buzzed with more than 300,000 children and at any given time, we work in at least 100 schools across South Africa.

We have, to date, established 7 independent franchises with the aim to double within a year. These franchisees are trained basic business skills and our programmes. They, in turn, employ teams. Buzz Kidz creates entrepreneurs (needed on the African continent) who create much needed employment opportunities in their communities. These employees deliver the Buzz Kidz child development programme, enhancing educational outcomes for thousands of children.

We have had 50K downloads of our podcast since inception and plan to, like Ubongo, roll our our television programme on a significant scale. Our programme is easily translatable into multiple languages.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

Implementation steps

ONBOARDING
WE ONBOARD FRANCHISEES AND SCHOOLS. A Franchisee is onboarded by us. This franchisee onboards schools for in-academic day OR extramural drama-dance and singing workshops. These are delivered in-person by facilitators. Education IN ARTS. Creative Arts Curriculum. ALTERNATIVELY
We onboard schools and networks of schools directly to sell them the liscense to deliver Buzz programmes: Education in arts (A performing arts curriculum) AND Education THROUGH ARTS (The Creative Teaching Tools.)
TRAINING
Franchisees (and their facilitators) as well as Teachers are given IN PERSON Training in the Buzz method and curriculum as well as specific access to our online platform: Buzz-in-a-Box, which is their LMS system and / or Operations Manual.
SELF STUDY AND PREPARATION
The Franchisee (and their Facilitators) as well as the Teachers engage directly with the online platform, Buzz-in-a-Box. Here they access each weekly "Education IN Art" OR "Education THROUGH Art" lesson (workshop) plan (intuitively arranged and designed with audio and visual resources) AHEAD of the session delivered, in person, to the child. Teacher and Facilitator is unskilled and the child has an embodied, playful learning experience.
PROGRAMME DELIVERY
The teacher / facilitator prepares for the weekly, in-person, in-academic day OR extramural service that THEY DELIVER TO CHILDREN IN PERSON, by logging into our online platform Buzz-in-a-Box to prepare before every lesson. Here the teacher / facilitator digests information, videos and audio guides to prepare them to deliver and in-person session with the child. . Children have a FUN, embodied, playful experience. Learning Improves & 21st Century Skills are devel
SALES AND GROWTH
Buzz Kidz helps solve the Youth Unemployment Problem in South Africa (and would like to do so further afield) by helping Franchisees, who deliver the programme at schools and independently to children via their Facilitators, develop entrepreneurial skills. We make sure they know how to sell our product to schools, grow and prosper. This is how we have been able to reach significant scale.
