Young New Zealander of the Year 2019 Kendall Flutey is on a mission to make finance fun for children.

We, at HundrED, are super proud to announce that Kendall Flutey, Co-Founder and CEO of Banqer, was named the 2019 Young New Zealander of the Year.

Nominees for the award are young people striving to improve themselves and their communities and are brimming with the potential to produce a bright future for New Zealand. The Young New Zealander of the Year Award gives special recognition to honour and encourage leaders of tomorrow and promote youth leadership.

Kendall was one of six winners on the night, with the top accolade, New Zealander of the Year, going to Mike King for his contributions towards the awareness and of support of mental health in New Zealand.

We think this is great recognition not only for Kendall and Banqer's efforts but also for the importance of financial education from a young age.

Banqer is a free online financial literacy tool, recognized in the HundrED 2019 collection, that transforms the classroom (Year 2-8) into a virtual economy where students get to experience managing personal finances first-hand. Each student has their own online account and with the click of a few buttons, teachers can simulate everyday financial experiences such as: earning income, paying expenses and tax, and credit/debt.
