How do we prepare learners to thrive in a rapidly transforming world? - Adam Collis | HundrED

Join Adam Collis, Community Development Director at pi-top from the UK as he goes live on the HundrED Facebook Page to explore the question, how do we prepar...

This video first appeared on our Facebook page on May 15th, as part of the HundrED WEBday series.

Who is Adam Collis?

Adam is the Community Development Director for pi-top; a learning company with a mission to inspire a generation of makers. Which is pretty interesting seeing as Adam is a university dropout who doesn’t have particularly fond memories from his time in school. But if you think about it, that is exactly why it makes sense that Adam should be working with pi-top to build a movement around Learning by Making; a student-led, hands-on approach to teaching and learning that goes beyond the screen and text book.

It wasn’t until Adam left industrialised education that he pursued an interest in philosophical and anthropological questions like “where do we come from?” and “where are we heading?” Which in turn, led to more specific questions around designing egalitarian education systems and societies.  There is a certain irony in not finding your calling through traditional education, even when that calling sees you working with schools, educators and learners around the world.

Thankfully, he now gets to explore these questions for a living, whilst striving to make improvements to the education system that failed to capture his interest and attention growing up. After a meandering path working in business and community development - and compiling a wealth of experience as a commercial director, despite dropping out of university - all these pieces are aligning for Adam, who has been working in this sector for over 6 years now.  Including time as the event director for Bett; the world’s largest education technology event which is where he met the pi-top team. It’s funny how things work out.
